Can PLA+ parts be used outdoors?
PLA+ is not recommended for prolonged outdoor UV exposure — it will degrade and become brittle over time in direct sunlight. For outdoor end-use parts, use ASA which is UV-stabilised. For short-term outdoor use or shaded environments, PLA+ performs better than standard PLA but should still be validated for your specific use case.
How does PLA+ compare to PETG for functional parts?
PLA+ has higher tensile strength and stiffness than PETG, and prints at lower temperatures with less odor. PETG offers better flexibility, higher heat resistance (up to 80°C vs 60°C for PLA+), and superior moisture resistance. For rigid functional parts in room-temperature environments, PLA+ is typically the better choice; for parts requiring flexibility or higher heat resistance, choose PETG.
What is the shelf life of PLA+ filament?
PLA+ is vacuum-sealed with desiccant at the factory and will keep for at least 12 months when sealed. After opening, it remains printable for approximately 3 months if stored in a sealed bag with fresh desiccant. Moisture exposure will cause bubbling and poor layer adhesion — dry at 45-55°C for 4-6 hours before printing if the spool has been exposed to humid air.
