Scaling a print farm from 10 to 100 machines changes your filament management from “grab a spool” to a supply chain discipline. Three systems solve the most common scaling failures: batch locking, inventory tracking, and quality logging.

Batch Locking

When running a client project across multiple machines, use filament from the same production batch. Different batches can have visible color differences (even at ΔE <2.0), and clients notice.

How to batch-lock: Order a reserved batch with the same production lot number. Our production line can reserve 200+ spool lots with identical color profiles and laser-measured diameter consistency.

Quality Logging

Log every print failure with: machine ID, material batch number, print settings, and failure mode. Over time, this reveals patterns:

  • Failures clustered on one machine = calibration issue
  • Failures clustered on one batch = material issue
  • Random distribution = environmental (humidity, drafts)
