PLA warping is caused by uneven cooling — the material shrinks as it cools, and if the bottom layer cools faster than upper layers, it lifts from the bed. Setting your bed to 50-70°C and controlling airflow solves 90% of PLA warping issues.
Why PLA Warps
PLA has a relatively low glass transition temperature (around 60°C). When the bottom layer cools below this point while upper layers are still hot, thermal stress builds up at the interface. If the stress exceeds bed adhesion, the print lifts.
Solutions by Priority
1. Bed Temperature
Set your heated bed to 50-70°C. This keeps the first layer above PLA’s glass transition point, maintaining adhesion throughout the print.
2. First Layer Settings
- Slow first layer to 15-20mm/s
- Increase first layer height to 0.28mm (for 0.4mm nozzle)
- Set first layer extrusion width to 120-150%
3. Adhesion Aids
- Washable glue stick on glass
- PEI sheet (cleaned with isopropyl alcohol)
- Kapton tape for difficult surfaces
4. Cooling Control
- Turn off or reduce cooling fan for the first 3-5 layers
- Enclose the printer or use a draft shield for large flat prints

When Warping Persists
If warping continues after optimizing these settings, check your filament diameter consistency. Inconsistent diameter causes uneven extrusion and adhesion. Our filaments are laser-measured to ±0.03mm per spool to eliminate this variable.
