How to Store 3D Printing Filament (Long-Term & Short-Term)

PLA, PETG and Nylon absorb moisture at different rates. Here's how to store each material for maximum shelf life.

Store filament in vacuum-sealed bags with desiccant for long-term storage, or in a filament dryer set to 45°C for active use. PLA absorbs moisture slower than PETG, while Nylon and TPU are the most sensitive.

Short-Term Storage (During Use)

Keep the spool in a sealed bag with desiccant between prints. A filament dryer set to 45°C provides active protection during printing.

Long-Term Storage (Months)

  1. Vacuum-seal the spool with 2-3 packets of silica gel desiccant
  2. Store in a cool, dark place (below 25°C)
  3. Label with the date opened
  4. Dry before use if stored for more than 3 months
